Tombow DIY Project: Decorative boxes

Tombow DIY Project: Decorative boxes
10 months ago No comments

These decorative collage boxes are perfect for storing photos, letters, jewellery and other treasures. In addition, they look stunning – they add a decorative, eye-catching detail to every room, or can be given away as a very special gift.

You will need:

  • Tombow Maxi Power Tape [go to product]
  • Cardboard box with lid
  • Patterned paper
  • About 20 cm elastic cord
  • Single hole punch
  • Eyelet pliers
  • Punch
  • Eyelets
  • Needle
  • Scissors
  • Pencil

Here‘s how:

Step 1

Position the lid on the reverse of the paper so that there is enough paper to cover the height of the lid plus approx. 2 cm on all sides. Affix the lid to the paper using Maxi Power Tape.

Finally, cut the paper as shown in the photo so that there is an overhang of approx. 1 cm to the left and right of two opposite sides.

Step 2

Now glue the two sides with the overhang to the lid using Maxi Power Tape. Then fold over the overhang on the sides and glue it to the lid, followed by the two remaining sides. Fold in the paper that is sticking up, and glue it to the inside of the lid. Fold or cut both overhangs on the side, as required.

For the box, follow steps 1 and 2.

Step 3

On the lid, mark out two points approximately 3 cm apart, punch out holes with the single hole punch, and insert two eyelets with the eyelet pliers.

Step 4

Threat a piece of elastic cord through both eyelets and knot it on the inside of the lid.

Step 5

Thread a button on a small piece of elastic cord to create the fastening. Make two holes in the box with the needle and thread the elastic cord through and secure with a knot.
